The Center for British Photography in London is open.

At the end of January, they opened a new Center for British Photography in London. Next to the Photographer's Gallery, it is the second major institution in the British capital focused on contemporary photographic arts from the documentary genre to conceptual. Czech Markéta Luskačová is among the photographers who had their work exhibited there at the opening.
The aim of the center is to support the work of contemporary artists who use photography to express themselves. The CBP exhibits works by authors living in Great Britain and at the same time also shows works from the world famous Hyman collection. This collection focuses on British photography and was founded by James and Claire Hyman in 1996. Their private collection is considered one of the most important sources of British photography, representing over 100 artists and numbering three thousand works previously only available online.

Gallery Center is located on Jermyn Street near Piccadilly Circus. A generous exhibition space with a total area of 750 square meters was created on three floors. The director of the museum, James Hyman, said in an interview that although there are institutions with very extensive collections, until now there has not been a place that specifically deals only with British photographers. A new gallery can fill this gap. "The center is here for anyone with an interest in photography. We want to promote British photography and make it more visible."

James Hyman plans to fully support the Center for two years. He believes that more art lovers will gradually join the institution, who will financially support the institution, so that it will be able to continue serve to community.

The center opened with seven curated exhibitions and presents more than 150 works by such personalities as Shirley Baker, Bill Brandt, Martin Parr, Anna Fox and the Czech photographer Markéta Luskačová.

Luskačová has lived and worked in Great Britain since 1975. In 2017, the Association of Professional Photographers of the Czech Republic awarded her the title Personality of Czech Photography (for long-term contribution to photography).

Luskačová: I am pleased that there is interest in my work

"James Hyman and his wife Claire are my friends," said Markéta Luskačová for Aktuálně.cz. "In April 2022 I exhibited at their first exhibition in the new Maddox Street gallery in London. I selected the photographs for this exhibition myself. Last year I also exhibited in Britain at three other exhibitions, in Newcastle upon Tyne, at the Laing Gallery in London and at the City Gallery in Birmingham. It makes me very happy that now - in my old age - people are interested in my photos. Of course, I was very happy that my work is exhibited at the Center for British Photography," she stated.

They also want to organize discussions with artists and theorists and other events at the Center during the exhibitions. The exhibitions will change three times a year. In April 2023, the unifying theme will be the environment, and in September, community. Also in February starts  a course prepared in collaboration with Imperial College, called A Short History of British Photography, intended for the public.
